Preliminary Task - Editing

Today my group for the preliminary task started editing the scenes that we had filmed the lesson before. Unfortunately we were not that organised so had to wait quite a long time during the lesson for our scenes to be uploaded on to a USB stick and then onto our computer to edit. We only had a short amount of time by the time we had transferred our files, but we were able to get the hang of the editing system. We mainly used the razor button, this is because we purposely filmed each clip too long so we wouldnt miss anything out. The razor key would cut a clip whereever you clicked, this meant you had two separate bits of the clip and could delete the bit you didn't need with the delete key. We didn't use many other buttons to edit as we didnt need to due to the simplicity of the task. It is very easy to use and we managed to line up the fist two scenes together. As a group we have learnt a lot for this preliminary task and very quickly. We all took turns at cutting scenes and putting the scenes in the correct places so already have great knowledge of the system.

Preliminary Task - Filming

Last lesson myself and two classmates completed the preliminary task which meant we spent the lesson understanding the factors of camera work which needed to be included such us 'over the shoulder shot', 'match on action' and '180 degree rule'. After discussing the shots we put them into action and filmed:

We made a couple of mistakes to begin with while filming for example we didn't stick to the 180 degree rule which meant we had to re-film a couple of scenes so that the 180 degree rule was applied. Myself and Harry Lewis acted in the preliminary task while Jess Johnson did most of the filming, I also had a go at filming for a bit and harry got to set up some of the shots to make sure the angles were correct. This meant we all got a go at working with the camera increasing our skills with it; this will make filming our thriller a lot easier.

Introduction

Hi, I'm Gabs and I chose to do Media Studies for AS level because I find all the roles behind the entertainment industry to be extremely interesting and intriguing. I have a few relatives that work in production and behind the scenes at production companies. Hearing about how the business works has made me want to get involved in the business and learn more about the industry. So far I enjoy the topics we have been learning about in class and I have learnt a great deal that I was unaware of in the subject before I started and I am very excited to get what I have learnt into practice. Since I have started the course we have learnt about lighting and camera angles in great detail and have seen them in action. The techniques involved have given me many ideas to put into my thriller opening sequence.
